Oh so many suspects, oh so little time... “Whisper of Bones” is novella #3 in an intended 4 book series by Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot. The two authors take turns being front ‘n center and it’s Leigh’s turn for this installment.Tessa and Logan are trying to eliminate a pile of prospects to identify the guilty one and they only have 97 pages to do it in! I really wasn’t sure they were gonna make it...Altho’ the character development is better if you have read the other 2 volumes, this mini mystery can be read as a stand alone.Melinda Leigh has a tight writing style that draws the reader in quickly. There’s not a lot of prose but this is an action oriented story that’s driven by the dialogue and emotion of the characters. Kudos to the author for her deft handling of the relationships between Tessa and her mother and how they are dealing with the insidious effects of early onset Alzheimer’s Disease. Add to that dealing with Logan’s PTSD and a teenage sister and it’s more than enough for a full sized novel 3 times this size; all done with class.There is a notable discovery in the case regarding Tessa and Cate’s best friend (Sam), but not much progress beyond that. I can only surmise that the authors have held that gem for the 4th (and last?) offering, due out next week! Oh, and in looking for that date, I found there are 5th and 6th novellas planned...great reading aheadđź“šLoved it Deputy Tessa Black is back in an addition to the Widows Island series. A body has been found on the beach and Tessa needs to find the killer. There are plenty of suspects to choose from. She has also vowed to solve the mystery of her friend Sams disappearance.This is a good addition to the series, but it could be read as a stand alone. I liked the characters and how real they were. This is a novella so it was a quick read. The story has mystery, family, and a love interest. Something for everyone! If you haven’t read the first two novellas Close to the Bone and A Bone to Pick I would highly suggest you go get these and read them. You could pick up novella three and start her but the first two novellas give you the back story of Tessa & Cate.
